What Does Reading Look Like in the Brain?
Participants in this study are asked to look at a text displayed on a screen while their brain activity is recorded using an EEG- a system of electrodes placed on the scalp.
The EEG does not affect brain activity; it only records it.
It is completely safe and has been used in neuroscience research for many years.
This experiment is also open to adults!
Your children can watch your brain waves on the screen alongside the researcher.

Decoding Motion
We know that the brain’s visual system develops over many years, into adulthood. But what happens when a child is born blind and begins to see “late”?
This study is part of a long-term, large-scale project comparing children in Ethiopia who were born blind and later had their vision surgically restored with children who have typical vision, like those visiting the museum and participating in our experiments. In this study, children are asked to watch figures moving on a screen and identify the direction of the movement. Their performance will be compared with that of the children in Ethiopia, helping us learn more about brain development during the first years of life.

Decoding Facial Expressions
In this study, children view blurred faces and are asked to identify the expressions. How much blur can they tolerate while still recognizing the emotions? This research is part of a long-term, large-scale project comparing children in Ethiopia who were born blind and later had their vision surgically restored with children who have typical vision, such as those visiting the museum and participating in our experiments.

Risk-Taking
In this study, children listen to a short story in which they are asked to help the “hero” navigate various situations. Afterwards, they play a computer game where they inflate virtual balloons. The bigger the balloon, the bigger the reward- but if the balloon pops, they lose the entire prize! The goal of the study is to examine whether children’s tendency to take or avoid risks can predict their decision-making.

Social Comparison and Sharing
Imagine you played a game and won some prizes. Would you share them with another child? What if that child didn’t do as well in the game as you? What if the child came from a low-income family? Join our researchers and help uncover the factors that influence generosity and sharing.
